Intense/Phantom/On-Trac Guthrie Race Report
For those who have been fortunate enough to check out BMX venues
around the country, the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma is a "must-do".
The facility is first class, the dirt exceptional and it has room
for a really big track one that always includes a :decision-maker” Pro-section
and the high-risk, high reward that comes with it. The ABA built
a really unique, different and fun track that rewarded skilled
riders and the "trails-like" Pro section made for some
nail-biting competition as you either cleared it or came to a
halt with no rolling possible if you couldn’t clear the
last obstacle, a GREAT feature. A handful of Intense/Phantom/On-Trac
riders made the trip up from Texas. Others just dig the great
venue, consistently solid rider counts and the never-disappointing
track.
Among the team's attendees was the ABA's newest Girl Pro, Dominique
Daniels. Dominique dominated every lap throughout the weekend
and powered her way to victory both days Her early dominance bode
well for her career and the early "buzz" in the stands
is when will she and Formula's Alise Post have that first head-to-head
race?
A couple of out littlest men made the trip as well. Adorable 7X
Shayne Lewis has been spending time at the "BMX Boot Camp" run
by TM Donovan Long and man, did it show. Lewis' gates were insane
and Shayne motored away winning both days convincingly, wire-to-wire.
Another grommet high up the cute scale is 8X "Vicious" Vaughn
Herrick who cruised up from neighboring Texas. Vaughn crashed
hard Saturday and took the day off. He rutturned with a vengeance
making up for Saturday by winning 8X and 7-8 Open on Sunday. The
last grommet in attendance was Christopher Blevins. Chris' home
tracks and several feet under snow right now so the warm, dry
confines of the Lazy E Arena was not only a great place to ride,,
but also a great place to notch up yet another double-double in
9X and 9 and under Cruiser.
Derik Bergh fled the snowy lands of Fergus Falls and rode incredibly
well! Derik notches two early season wins in 12X and a 1st and
2nd in 11-12 Open in a really hard, focused performance for the
weekend. Billy Russell notched two first class wins in 14X and
probably pulled off the “race of the weekend” Sunday
managing to work his way through the pack, pull multiple bike
lengths down the rythym and drag race to the line with a rider
who jumped the Pro section, barely avoiding a collision in the
last turn and winning in a video decision. A crowd-pleaser!
The “Conman” put on a display of tractor-like pull
and sick butter-like skills winning every lap for the weekend,
putting on a show for the fans every time he sailed through the
Pro set. Connor Fields double-doubles in 15X and 15-16 Open. “Jake-alicious” Jake
Trevino manages to notch several good races together as a newcomer
to the deep and competitive 17-18 Class pulling down a 2nd and
4th in 17X and a 3rd and 5th in 17-18 Open. Nic Long put most
of the weekend together winning 17-18X Sunday and taking 1st and
2nd for the weekend in 17-18 Open.
Matt Baisley had a great weekend spinning his red shoes like plane
propellers! Matt pulls off the double in 17-20 Cruiser and achieves
a 2nd and 5th in 19-27X. Finally, Matt Tischler put a good day
together Saturday in 19-27X taking the win and then garnering
2nd in 17 and over Open to teammate Nic Long.
As everyone scrambled to flee the Lazy E in search of a TV and
the Super Bowl, the weekend came to a close with Intense/Phantom/On-Trac
taking the Factory Team wins both days with scores of 212 looking
forward to the parade lap in two weeks and Lake Perris, California
for the SoCal National. Don’t forget to hit up www.Go211.com
